10 things wrong with The Room

Now as you would expect from the title, this here is gonna be about the 2003 movie "The Room", because of this I just want to go ahead and say SPOILER ALERT as this will contain spoilers but if you have no intention of watching or have already watched the movie than go ahead and read this.

So the other day I watched The Room with my brother & friend and I can tell you this, it was painful to watch. No really this movie was actually worse than I thought. Exactly how bad was it? Well either you can go watch it (you can grab it off at Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Room-Tommy-Wiseau/dp/B000CFYAMC) or if you don't want to experience the horror, you can read this.

Now like I said before there are gonna be spoilers so if you continue on your own risk

#0. The poster. Just look at it, you can already tell you're in for a ride

Summary of the film.

The film is about a character named Johnny who is played by Tommy Wiseau, who is also the creator, director, writer, producer and basically anything else.
In the film Johnny is engaged to his girlfriend Lisa, but lately Lisa doesn't like Johnny anymore so he has an affair with his best friend Mark. Other than that there are just a lot more in the film that I'm gonna explain later.

#1. The acting

To kick start off the list I'm going with what actually is the biggest reason this is considered one of the worse movies ever, the acting. The biggest offender is Tommy Wiseau as his acting is just so, well it's actually unbelievable. Now when I mean it's unbelievable, it's just beyond your typical bad movie. At the start of the movie you can already tell the acting is just bad. In case you wanted to see how bad it is, here is the probably the most infamous scene of bad acting in the film:
But that's not my favourite scene in the movie, this is:

#2 The Sex Scenes

Now to some of you it's gonna seem weird that I'm talking about the sex scenes. Well believe it or not these sex scenes are pretty stupid. Not only are there too many of them in the film but they are too long and too stupid, in fact I'm divided this into 2 because I can.

a. Length

The length of these sex scenes are a bit of a problem, both in movie time & real time

i. Movie Time

The first sex scene in the movie appears to be switching between day and night time, which means that this sex must be very awkward if it's happening over that long of a period of time.

ii. Real Time

The sex scenes actually do appear to drag on for a bit. It's not like a minute but a few minutes. In fact a good portion of the film is just sex (then again the movie is rated R, or in australia, MA15+ but then again it could be rated R18+ in australia but I don't know cause it wasn't released in Australia, well at least that I'm aware of). Sure the sex length does die out later in the movie but it's still a bit too long, in fact it's close to being a porno.

b. The Sex

Now the sex is actually pretty awkward. I would describe it but it is to NSFW. All I can say is that if this movie was a Porno, it would be a terrible Porno.

Oh and you get to see Johnny's butt.
Yep.
And I'm not posting any photos or links cause it's just too stupid and NSFW

#3. Transitions.

The transitions in this movie appears to be a bit weird. In some scenes it's just showing random pieces of San Francisco but at other times it's showing places that might think the scene is gonna be set in that area when in reality it's just another part of San Francisco. But that's not where the big problem is. It has 2 problems. 1 is that some of the transitions are just a bit too long while at times they're happening in the middle of a scene! Like in one scene there's a party, then the transition is happening, then it's back to the party. Like what was the point in all of that? In fact an earlier scene in the movie had 2 random people having sex in Johnny and Lisa's apartment, then it cuts to a transition. Like really what was the point of that? Sure it heads back to the scene but the transitions are just everywhere in this movie.

#4. Unresolved problems

One of the problems this movie has is that it has unresolved problems. For example in one scene Lisa's mother has Breast Cancer but nothing is dealt with it later in the movie. Does she still have it? Is she better? We will never know.
What about Denny's drug problem? Is he addicted to drugs? We will never know.

#5. Random people

At times the movie appears to have people who come into the movie with no introduction or what not. This can be very confusing as it appears to make some scenes pointless. For example the scene were 2 people come into Johnny and Lisa's apartment is very confusing as you have no idea who the people are until after the sex scene.
And later in the movie a guy is seen talking with Lisa and is aware of the affair Lisa is having with Mark but we have no idea who this guy is. In fact we never know his name, making it extremely confusing

#6. This scene

No really. This scene is just so, WUT. Like really this scene will always get me no matter what. First of all how did she not know it was Johnny till he took off his sunglasses. And while it does seem it is odd it's rushed, there's no excuse for them to be talking everywhere.

#7. "Football"

Ah these guys sure do love their football, except for the fact they aren't actually playing football. In fact it's just them throwing the ball around. Now one of the most infamous scenes in this movie is where they play football in their tuxedos. Sure they said they were going to get ready to take a photo for Johnny's wedding but where's the photo? It's just them playing football and it's back to their regular lives.
Funny enough they actually went and got the photo for the wedding but that scene was not in the movie. Why? I don't know why but if you want to see the photo here it is:

#8 Johnny's inappropriateness

Words cannont express how I feel after watching that.

If you skip to 0:36 you'll see Mark telling a story that Johnny laughs at, even though it's not a funny story. BONUS POINTS to the fact the speech did not match Johnny's lips

#9. People doing the same thing like they didn't do it beforehand

Everytime Lisa's mother comes other to Johnny and Lisa's apartment, she talks to her about how she Doesn't love Johnny and loves Mark instead. In fact it's basically the same converstation over and over again, it's like she forgot she had one already so she's doing another one in case she didn't do it.
Also when she is about to have sex with Mark, Mark get's confused and has no idea what is going on. DUDE you're having an affair with your best friends fiance and you have no idea what's going on? Like seriously?

#10. The Ending

The ending is just so weird. Like really I have no words to express how odd it is. First Johnny
goes and destroys everything in his apartment (including throwing a TV out the window), then he
has sex with Lisa's dress, then he kills himself.
And if you thought that was odd, when Lisa and Mark come over Lisa hold's Johnny's hand and
asks if he's dead, even though he just shot himself and she's holding his hand which would've
had a pulse if he was alive. And just to top everything off Mark goes at Lisa in what appears to be
a good example of bad movie fashion.

Other wrong things with the movie:

To be honest this list wasn't exactly 10 things as I included things into it so it would be 10 but trust me there is lot more than just what I mentioned. Like how in one scene Johnny's friend Mike falls down easily from a light touch given by Mark, or even that we have no idea what anyone does in the movie, or even who Denny is. The movie is just full of plotholes and stuff that doesn't make sense.

Conclusion.

If you haven't seen it then you should because I bet I forgot some stuff from it. I mean that film is just so bad that you need to watch it to see how bad it is. It's not like The Last Airbender where I would tell you to stay as far from that movie as possible cause that is just pure crap, but instead treat it as one of those "So bad it's good" films.

Tony hawk - The series that just died

So as some of you might know, a new tony hawk game just came out on smartphones called Tony Hawk's Shred Session and all I can say is, I'm very disappointed.
This game is a departure from the original game mechanics and involves you swiping your finger to do tricks and while it might seem not that bad at first, it's really bad. For starters its a free-to-play endless runner, you yep there are gonna be microtransactions. And I don't just mean like "Pay $0.99 for coins" but I mean a lot of them. Some of them even cost over $100!
Now if this game didn't have the Tony Hawk label, would it a bit better? The answer is, kinda. The game is filled with glitches, some things you need to figure out (like how to do particular tricks) with even sometimes they won't do it at all. Oh and the game likes to crash at times.
But how exactly does this game mean the series is close to death? You might be thinking this is just an overreaction but its bigger than that. I'm gonna go back to the beginning of the decline.

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

Now the start of the Decline on the series is said to be the release with American Wasteland. Now the game isn't the worse but did have some elements that showed the series was about to decline (for example the game felt like a tutorial for about half the game, had the same engine as Underground 2, plus others) but despite this the game still has many pros.

Tony Hawk's Project 8/Proving Ground

These games had changed how the previous games worked. The mechanics and graphics were changed to something a bit more realistic, while still having the same controls as the previous games. Some fans didn't enjoy them while others did, with many fans (including me) agreeing that Proving Ground is the last good (or even just the last) Tony Hawk game. Pretty much after this the series had just died and I'm gonna explain why.
It is possible that the series Skate might have something to do with the decline as THPG was released the same time as Skate 1.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam

This is the first Spin-off game in the series and was released on the wii, ds and PS2 at the same time as Project 8. Instead of traditional tony hawk gameplay involving completing goals, it had you racing against other skaters in downhill environments. Because it was released the same time as Project 8 this game isn't classed as on the of the games that ruined the franchise and can be excused (because hey the only people who would've grabbed it were the ones who owned a wii/ds and the fanbase for those consoles wouldn't have minded.

Tony Hawk's Motion
Bet you didn't know this game existed? It was the only Tony Hawk game to be released in 2008 and was a DS exclusive. Probably the only reason this game is easily forgotten is the fact it was a DS exclusive and wasn't even that good (it came with another game which reviews say was better)

Tony Hawk Ride/Shred

Now this is where the series went and gave a giant middle finger to the fans. This time instead of using a controller they used a skateboard controller. Now it might seem like a good idea to some but the series wasn't about trying to be realistic like that. It was meant about having unrealistic fun (Tony Hawk's Underground 2 is really unrealistic). Because of the negative reception of the first one, Tony Hawk went ahead and ignored it and ended up making a sequel called Shred. Yep he didn't care and ended up making a sequel that sold 3,000 copies in its first week. As you would expect that game got negative reception as well.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD

This game was released about 2 years ago on the PSN, xbox marketplace and steam and was meant to help save the series. But did it exactly?

Pros and Cons

Unlike Ride and Shred, this game went back to its roots and could only be played on a controller (unless you were playing on PC, but even that if you're using keyboard you're gonna have a bad time). Along with this it featured levels from THPS1 and THPS2 (DLC included levels from THPS3). Now these levels ended up looking pretty nice and the soundtrack is also good featuring tracks from THPS2 (plus Superman from THPS1) and other songs from artists like Middle Class Rut and Trent Reznor. But despite that there were some problems.
Sure some songs weren't in the game but that's not what I'm concerned about. The controls aren't exactly the best and there are plenty of glitches (including that wallride glitch). Local multiplayer is not included which is pretty stupid as that is what made the originals special. And to add insult to injury the PC version lacks online Multiplayer (so much for a master race eh). Also some of the levels do have areas that could have a bit of improvment (for example School II, to get into the Gym it's a lot harder than THPS2)

How could the game be improved?

Obviously include Local Multiplayer and fix some glitches would be good but if the PC version included Workshop support, that game would just sell so much that.
In fact to be honest I could call Pro Skater HD the worse tony hawk game that I would play, so it's not as bad as Ride, Shred and others but not as good as the other games.

So is the series dead?

The answer, is no. The Tony Hawk series will never die. Sure they'll release terrible games but the fans will make awesome ones. For example some fans have recently been modding THUG2 to include every level from THPS1-THAW. And if a series has a fanbase like that, then it shows the it is alive in them, not the developers.
